Perfection is Overrated.

“Perfect is the enemy of good.”  – Voltaire

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I’ve been working on launching this newsletter for the last five years.

The perfectionist in me kept holding off until I had a neat, tidy, perfectly formatted newsletter ready to go and I could commit to a regular schedule. Because that’s what a professional with a newsletter does, right?

Apparently not, because, well, I haven’t.

I realized that comparing my newsletter to those dreamy, witty, well-designed newsletters that show up in my inbox is a futile exercise. For one thing, I don’t have a staff. As a one-person operation, I do it all, and newsletter design is not my expertise.

So, I decided enough is enough. A newsletter doesn’t have to perfect to be valuable. Just like a good, loving parent doesn’t have to be perfect to be amazing. (See how I threw in that parallel? 😊)

Comparing ourselves to others or believing that we either do something “right” or our efforts are worthless can hold us back, even paralyze us and keep us from putting value out into the world.

My newsletter doesn’t have to be fancy to be worth sharing. Just like you’re a good parent, whether you fed your family a hot home-cooked meal for dinner last night or served leftover pizza.

I’ve realized that I’m more motivated to write as things come up in my life, as inspiration hits – and I want to share with you in real-time. So that’s what I’m going to do! I’m going to throw out all my preconceived notions about what a “professional” newsletter looks like, and I’m going to do a newsletter my way! I’ll talk about what I’m up to, share parenting tips and inspiration as well as general life-coaching tips. I might throw in an inspirational quote or do a poll. Maybe I’ll just share a story about how I pissed off one of my kids. Who knows? I’ll mix it up!

Excited to have you along as I play with my ideas of what makes a valuable newsletter. And I’d love your input too. Just reply to any email to share your thoughts, ideas, topic suggestions, to laugh with me, anything!
