In the heat of the moment, when the kids are pushing my buttons and I'm on the verge of losing my mind, I find self talk one of my favorite tools for helping me to keep my cool. The key is to find a phrase or mantra that you really connect with. The right mantra will help you change your lens in the situation and put you in a more positive place, allowing you to approach the situation in a way that is helpful, rather than in a way that will escalate the situation.
